Statesmen Back in Action at NAIA Seminole Valley Stampede

Cedar Rapids–The William Penn cross country teams had been off the course for just shy of a month, but knocked that rust free on Saturday as they competed at the NAIA Seminole Valley Stampede hosted by Mount Mercy.

The women were 25th out of 27 squads with 696 points, while the men were 23rd out of 23 programs with 723 points. St. Ambrose claimed the women’s race with 102 points; Olivet Nazarene was first in the men’s competition with 53 points.

Kaitlyn Shoemaker of Saint Mary (Kan.) was the top female in the 5K event at 18:24.7; USM swept the top honors as Philip Lagemann also took the top honor in the men’s 8K run at 25:34.8.

Talaysia Douver (Fr., Lakewood, Calif.) topped the navy and gold women, placing 115th at 21:19.2. Andrea Jaquez (Fr., San Antonio, Texas, Exercise Science) was next in 162nd place at 22:12, while
Zena Cohuo (Fr., Carrollton, Texas, Exercise Science) finished 199th at 22:52.

Bree’Anna Lee (Jr., Broken Arrow, Okla., Biology), in 217th at 23:21.8, and Madison Udy (Fr., American Falls, Idaho, Exercise Science), in 227th at 23:44.6, wrapped up the women’s efforts.

David Perry (Fr., Sierra Vista, Ariz., Business Management) headlined the William Penn men, ending up 179th at 30:00.1. Cameron Shade (So., Riverdale, Ga., Sociology) was runner-up for the crew in 214th at 31:00.3.

Jack Miller (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa) was next in the lineup, finishing 216th at 31:06.5, while Gabriel Webster (Fr., Worland, Wyo.) finished in a time of 32:36.9 for 251st place. Joshua Williams (Fr., Atlanta, Ga.) completed the team scoring by placing 258th in a time of 33:19.1.

Julian Davis (So., Palmer, Alaska, Mechanical Engineering) topped the remaining group as he was 260th (33:26.2), while James Barrett (Fr., St. Louis, Mo., Mechanical Engineering) (262nd, 33:56) and David Williams (So., Victor, Iowa, Secondary Education) (263rd, 33:56.6) also ran the 8K.

Next Up: William Penn returns to action in two weeks, traveling to Atchison, Kan. on Saturday, November 3 to compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships.
