Oskaloosa–Statesmen goalkeeper Max Stamer (Fr., Salzgitter, Germany, Secondary Education) has been a force between the pipes in the early weeks of his collegiate career and he was honored for great play last week by being named Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week Monday.

Stamer, a first-time selection, guided William Penn (6-3-1, 3-0 Heart) to wins over then-#25 Grand View 1-0 and Avila 2-1.

The freshman shut out the Vikings, posting four saves to give WPU its first win in 17 tries against its rival. He then permitted just one goal against the Eagles, again stopping four shots.

Stamer is currently 6-3-1 with a 1.29 Goals Against Average (13 goals in 908 minutes). He has stopped 39 opponent tries in addition to two shutout performances.

The award is the second for William Penn this year.
