Soup for supper put smiles on teens faces

People fill the basement of Good News Chapel for their semi-annual soup supper March 4, 2011

A semi-annual soup supper at Good News Chapel served a packed house once again.

Pastor Alvern Boetsma said that the kids work to raise money for 2 years, then they take a trip to Kansas City. “We kind of have it as a fun time and a spiritual time, bible study and devotions.”

There the youth or “Monday Night Teens”, in grades 6 to 12, get to visit Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. Boetsma added, of the fund raising activity, “So it takes a couple of years to get the money raised, and that is where the benefit goes.”

People in the congregation donate the food to help raise the funds. There was chili, turkey noodle and vegetable soups. You could have a beef burger or hotdog, carrots, celery, and more cakes and pies than one can almost imagine.

Boetsma said “I’d like to thank the community for their support.”

The church has these suppers semi-annually, the first being the first Friday in November and the second is the first Friday in March.
