Sonia Montgomery, 76 of New Sharon passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, August 18, 2018 under hospice care in New Sharon. Sonia Lou Montgomery, the daughter of Jesse and June (Wright) Knoke, was born on July 14, 1942 in Red Oak , Iowa.

Sonia graduated from Griswold High School.

She was married to Gerald Montgomery. To this union four children were born, Scott, Craig, Joni and Tammy.

Throughout her life, Sonia was a wonderful housewife and mother and she also helped her husband, Gerald, drive truck. Sonia loved her crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching Chicago PD and Live PD T.V. Shows and also enjoyed watching football, basketball, MMA Fighting, and all types of racing, especially NASCAR; following Dale Jr. and Dale Sr.

Sonia will be missed by her husband of 59 years, Gerald Montgomery of New Sharon; her four children: Scott Montgomery of Montezuma, Craig (& LuAnn) Montgomery of New Sharon, Joni (& Jerry) Metcalf of Jay, OK and Tammy (& Jose) Rivera of New Sharon; her 10 grandchildren: Heidi (& Raymond) Hard, Tiffany (& Darryl) Johnson, Kristie (& B.J.) Ewing, Bryan Montgomery (& Valerie Rouze), Adam (& Serena) Montgomery, Ryan Montgomery, Chelsea Rivera, Faith Rivera, Tiara Rivera and Falynn Rivera; her eight great grandchildren: Anthony Hard, Hailey Ewing, Baylee Ewing, Natalie Rouze, Kennliegh Rouze, Shaylei Montgomery, Quinn Montgomery, and Elizabeth Montgomery; sister, Mary Muller; sisters-in-law: Jerry Knoke, Betty Knoke, Judy Mitchell, JoEllen Ehm and Irene Fuller; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.

Sonia was preceded in death by her parents, June and Jessie Knoke; sisters: Shirley Buffon and Norma Shepard; three brothers: Bob Knoke, John Knoke, and Dick Knoke; brothers-in-law: Bryan Lewis, Walter Buffon, Ev Muller, Elton Shepard, Richard Montgomery, John Montgomery, Chuck Ehm, Lester Mitchell and Walter Fuller; and her in-laws, Mary and Ralph Montgomery.

As was her wish, her body has been cremated.
No services are planned. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2018 beginning at 12:00 pm with the family present to greet friends and family from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
As was the family’s wish, please wear casual attire.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Sharon Fire and Rescue or the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice.
