The Osky boys basketball team came into their Saturday afternoon game with Mt. Pleasant just looking to put up a fight, and sneak out with a win. Coming in on 1-10 for the season, that’s what the hope was. Just trying to find ways to get back into the win column.

Osky was looking to break the mold of slow starts that have plagued them so far this season. Mt. Pleasant came out on fire, working pick and roll and three point shooting to jump out to an early lead. Osky tried to battle back with baskets by Spencer Medlin and Ryan Reiter, but it wasn’t enough because along with Mt. Pleasants 2-1-2 full court pressure then trapping in corners caused Osky to fall behind 25-12 after the first quarter.

The second quarter brought much of the same as Wade Votrubek came off the bench to score on two drives to the basket and Nate VanVeldhuizen, along with the solid play of Medlin, tried to keep Osky in the game, but the lead expanded with Oskaloosa trailing 38-21 at the half.

Oskaloosa came out and had a good third quarter as Osky played some of the best defense they have played lately. Reiter started to get his offensive game back on track with a strong third quarter. Along with a three pointer by Nick Waters and a strong drive to the hoop by VanVeldhuizen, they cut the lead to 13 by the end of the quarter with the score being 45-32

Oskaloosa came out with good energy on a basket by Medlin. Osky turned up its own defensive pressure and caused Mt. Pleasant troubles and cut the lead to 9. Ryan Reiter hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key and had several other baskets to try to keep Oskaloosa close. Osky appeared to play hacka Shaq defense for the last four minutes trying to stay in the game, Mt. Pleasant made their free throws to end the game 67-53.

Oskaloosa was led by Ryan Reiter with 21 pts and 6 rebounds, followed by Spencer Medlin with a double double 12 pts and 10 rebounds, and Ryder Curtis and Nate VanVeldhuizen with 6 pts. a piece.

Oskaloosa is back in action Tuesday night at home against Knoxville.
