Six Kids Awarded New Bikes From Hy-Vee

Five of the six bicycle winners were on hand Friday to receive their new bikes and safety equipment from Hy-Vee.
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Hy-Vee gave away six new bicycles on Friday.
Gerad Curry, Store Director of the Oskaloosa Hy-Vee, talked about the program that put new bikes into kids hands.
Earlier in the year, Hy-Vee ran Petals for Pedals, where a portion of every dozen roses that were sold went to help buy a bicycle for a deserving kid in the community.
The rose sale is an annual event at Hy-Vee.”I just thought, you know if I can do more, do more,” said Curry.
Curry got six bikes for the program, while many of the other store locations did one bicycle. “Let’s just do a little more and raise a little awareness and have a little fun.”
Five of the winners were on hand to receive their bikes on Saturday. Before speeding off down the road, the young riders got safety instruction from Mahaska County 911 Director Cheryl Eklofe.
In addition to the safety instructions, each bike winner got a helmet and a bicycle lock from Hy-Vee.
