Shooting Woes Spell Trouble for Lady Indians

The long basketball season continued for Oskaloosa on Saturday, as they traveled to Indianola in a nonconference game. Playing a 4A team that plays in the strongest 5A conference in the state is not what you need on the schedule when you are struggling like Osky is, but the ladies from Osky went out and fought and clawed. They came up on the short end of the stick with a final score of 52-18.

The first quarter set the tone for the night as Indianola came out playing really physical, and they could not have been any hotter from the outside as they hit their first six 3 pointers and were off to the races. Osky trailed 20-2 after the first quarter.

It has been the reoccurring theme this season for both the Osky girls and boys on how they will handle the defensive ball pressure. If its full court pressure, half-court traps, they have had a hard time dealing with it and it results in points off of turnovers for other teams.

The rest of the half was more of the same as Osky struggled with shooting and Indianola capitalized on second chance points and held a rebounding edge, as they continued to a 34-6 halftime lead.

In the second half Osky did manage to play better defense and held the Indians from Indianola to only 18 second half points, but they also found putting the ball in the basket hard as they ended the game 52-18.

Osky was led once again by young Freshman Alexis Westercamp with 5 pts. and 6 rebs., Asia Laudermilch with 5 pts. and 5 rebs., and Alenda Renter with 4 pts. The Lady Indians will be back in Little Hawkeye Conference action Tuesday night at home against Newton.
