Sandra “Sandy” Coldewe, 61, of Oskaloosa passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017, at her home in Oskaloosa.

Sandra Elaine Coldewe, daughter of Walter and Dorothy Evelyn (Newell) Slycord, was born September 25, 1955, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Sandy’s education began at a country school in rural Mahaska County, and she went on to attend Grant Elementary School and graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1973.

Sandy was united in marriage to Lawrence Edward Haywood August 21, 1977. They soon moved to Talladega, Alabama, where their son Matthew was born. In 1981, they returned to Oskaloosa and were blessed with a daughter, Alisha. She and Lawrence later divorced.

Sandy stayed home with her children when they were young. She eventually furthered her education at Indian Hills Community College earning a degree in Medical Terminology/Coding. Over her lifetime, she was employed by Sernett’s, Donavan-Rousch & Pattritto Orthodontics, Mahaska County Jail as a jailer, at the Ottumwa Hospital Dialysis Unit as a receptionist, and Hawkeye Lumber Company.

Sandy moved to Auxvasse, Missouri in 2009 and married David Coldewe May 20, 2011. They returned to Oskaloosa in 2013. David passed away March 7, 2016.

Sandy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and attended the Calvary Bible Church. She enjoyed scrapbooking, cross stitch, motorcycle riding and spending time with her grandchildren.

Her memory will be honored by her children and their spouses: Matthew (& Josalyn) Haywood of Decorah, Iowa and Alisha (& Andrew) Vander Meiden of Oskaloosa. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Dominick, Sasha, Konnor, Paige and Karter; and by a great-granddaughter, Jaylee. She is survived by her siblings: Cheryl (& Robert “Bob”) Eissens of Fremont, Deborah (& Jack) Keizer of Delavan, Wisconsin, and Michael (& Kendra) Slycord of Oskaloosa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David; and a sister, Rae Lynn.

Funeral Services for Sandy will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2017, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Doug Smiley of the Calvary Bible Church officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Thursday morning at the funeral chapel. The family will greet visitors from 5-7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Legion or Calvary Bible Church.
