Rusty Thomas, 46, of What Cheer, died Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Rusty William Thomas was born October 24, 1971 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Bill Thomas and Nancy Garber.

Rusty attended Tri-County High School and by age seventeen he was working full time as an electrician to help his mother pay bills. Over the years he has worked for several electrical companies including Thomas Electric.

Rusty was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and he enjoyed attending the Christian Life Center in Oskaloosa. He also enjoyed boating, riding dirt bikes, listening to loud music, and most of all, a good breakfast. Rusty was a selfless father, an amazing brother and son, and a loyal friend.

Rusty is survived by his mother, Nancy (& Ryan) Bunting of What Cheer; his wife, Sheffiney Thomas of What Cheer; his children: Dalton Thomas of What Cheer, Tyler Hoskins of Montezuma, Natorie Thomas of Oskaloosa, Dakota Thomas and Clayton Thomas both of What Cheer; a sister, Heather (& Garrett) Deucore of Barnes City; a brother, Jason (& Tina) Thomas of What Cheer; two grandchildren, Adalyn and Ezra Hoskins; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Bill Thomas; and a son, Cody Van Helton.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer.
Burial will be held privately in the Rice Cemetery near What Cheer.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rusty Thomas Memorial.
