Rural Mahaska County Picking Up The Pieces

This home in the 2800 block of Kent Avenue was heavily damaged by fire on Tuesday afternoon.

Mahaska County, Iowa – BJ Boender and his family are picking up after an afternoon fire severely damaged their home, south of Oskaloosa, in the 2800 block of Kent Avenue.

Eddyville Volunteer Fire Department was paged to the report of smoke coming from the windows around 3 pm Wednesday afternoon.

The person who phoned in the report said there was a vehicle in the driveway, and no one was coming to the door.

Oskaloosa Fire Department was paged for mutual aid at approximately 3:10 pm to assist.

By the time firefighters arrived, flames could be seen coming from the 2nd story windows of the home.

Steve Boender, father of BJ Boender, confirmed that everyone is accounted for, and no injuries have been reported.

Mahaska County Emergency Manager Jamey Robinson said that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Eddyville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by Oskaloosa Fire Department, Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services, Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department, and Mahaska County 911 Dispatchers and Mahaska County Emergency Management.
