Rural Mahaska County accident results in bent fenders

Sunday afternoon at approximately 2:20 p.m. Diana Gordin, of Oskaloosa, was driving her 2006 Pontiac Montana West on 245th Street about 1 mile West of Jewel Ave. Curtis Vanhemert, also of Oskaloosa, was driving East in a 1995 Buick LeSabre when the two drivers sideswiped at the crest of a hill. The road had been narrowed to just a little more than 1 vehicles width, at that point, by snow and snow drifts.

No injuries were reported. Gordin expressed anger with the maintenance of the roads and not having more space for vehicles to safely pass on the road.

Another local accident happened this morning in the 1900 block of Highway 163.

Kay Wood, driving her 2004 Jeep, was Westbound when she came across a section of highway that the wind had blown a considerable amount of snow onto. Wood lost control of her vehicle  and entered the median. Her Jeep rolled once and came to rest on its wheels.

Wood was taken, by ambulance, to Mahaska Health Partnership. Her condition is unknown at this time.
