Rollin’ Oldies Keeps On Rollin’

With 172 entries on Saturday, there was just about a car or truck for everybody to appreciate and enjoy at the Rollin’ Oldies Car Show.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The last Saturday in July belongs to Oskaloosa’s Rollin’ Oldies Car Club as they host their annual car show on the square in downtown Oskaloosa.

Greg Johnson was just finishing up handing out a slew of awards to car owners for the Rollin’ Oldies Car Club on Saturday when Oskaloosa News caught up with him.

Johnson said that there was a good turnout for the show and an average car turnout. “It’s not as high as we’ve been and certainly not as low as we’ve been.”

There was a total of 172 participants in the show on Saturday.

“We appreciate everyone coming. It was a nice crowd,” added Johnson.

There were cars from the early 1900s to today’s street muscle cars on display in downtown Oskaloosa. Johnson said there was “a good 100-year span” of automotive history on display.

As with everything, taste in cars changes as the times change. The muscle cars of the mid to late 1960s and early 1970s are hot, as well as some of the modern muscle car offerings.

Johnson said that the love for the street rod group is still there. “That’s kind of a click that’s dying, unfortunately. There’s a lot of beautiful cars that are in the 30s and 40s. We haven’t seen as many of those today as we would like to have.”

To be a part of Rollin’ Oldies Car Club, having an interest in cars is the ticket to get you in. “We don’t ask you own a car or a motorcycle or anything, just an interest in cars,” says Johnson. Once you get your invite from a club member, “we’ll kind of go from there.”
