Roger Lynn Witt Sr., age 69 years 3 days, of Eddyville, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospital surrounded by family.
Roger was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Monday, December 15, 1947, the son of Michael Albert and Roberta Ellen (Bogard) Witt. Roger was raised in Oskaloosa.
After school Roger lived in California, Texas and Missouri. He moved back to Iowa in 1984.
He worked at Missouri Mining in Unionville, Missouri, Lovilia Coal Mining in Lovilia. From 1985 to 1996 Roger worked at Witt Auto Salvage in Eddyville. In 1996 Roger went to work for Ben Shinn Trucking in Eddyville and was currently employed with them. Roger, and his wife Vicky, also owned and operated R & V Trucking.
Roger enjoyed woodworking, scrapping, gambling at Priarie Meadows, playing casino games on Facebook and camping.
Roger is survived by his wife of 21 years, Vicky Witt of Eddyville; six children: Nick (& Penny) Witt of Oskaloosa, Scott Witt Sr. of Oskaloosa, Steven (& LaDonna) Martin of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Patricia “Trish” (& Mike) Longoria of Galveston, Texas, Roger “Pookie” Witt Jr. of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, James (& Sara) Witt of Radcliffe, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Mark (& Nancy) Witt of Eddyville, Albert “Bud” Witt of Tracy, and Leon (& Liz) Witt of California; two sisters: Sue Brown of Utah and Doris Hoffman of Tennessee; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; a step-daughter Stacy Diane Schwab; two grandsons, Christopher Pettyjohn and Tanner Witt; his granddaughter, Kendra Stephanie; his nephew, Tony Atchison; five brothers: Kenny Bogard, Jerry Witt, Larry Witt, Paul David Witt, and (in infancy) Norman Witt; two sisters, Hattie Lesser and Patricia Hampton; and many sisters and brothers-in-law.
Visitation for Roger will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. Roger’s family will be greeting friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday evening.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the First Christian Church of Eddyville.
Burial will follow services at White Oak Cemetery of rural Eddyville.
A memorial has been established in Roger’s name and will be decided by his family at a later date.
