Rita Voss, 72, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, April 28, 2019, at her home in Oskaloosa under the care of her family and support of M.H.P. Hospice. She was born December 21, 1946 in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Gentry “Jiggs” and Rosemary Evans McMillian.
Rita graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1965. On July 11, 1964 she was united in marriage to Dale Voss at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together they shared 45 years of marriage until Dale’s passing in 2010.
Following high school, she started working at the Oskaloosa Hospital as a candy striper. She took a few years off after her son Jason was born. She later went back to work at the hospital as a C.N.A. until retiring in 2010.
Rita was a member of the Gateway Church in Oskaloosa, The Red Hat Ladies and The Basement Babes. She looked forward to Christmas every year and prepared by shopping for decorations as soon as she could. She enjoyed attending the New Hope Free Methodist Church, league bowling, playing cards, traveling, cooking, baking and spending time with her family. She was a dedicated wife and mother that took care of her family’s needs and always kept her house immaculate.
Her family includes her children: Jason (& Talisa) Voss of Oskaloosa and Nikki (& Kris) Fleurestil of Des Moines; eight grandchildren: Jesse, Ethan, Trevor, Lyndsey, Ryan, Carlie, Kenny, and Kiyah; a sister, Ellen (& Howard) Thompson of Oskaloosa; a brother, Charlie (& Bert) McMillian of New Sharon; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three grandchildren, Enzo, Tatianna and Zane Fleurestil; and a brother, Terry McMillian.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 2, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Reverend Charlie McMillian officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery at Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Wednesday after 12 noon, and the family will be present Wednesday 5-7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Rita Voss Memorial Fund designated for cancer research and care.
