Richard Showalter, 78, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, April 1, 2019, at the MHP Serenity House in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was born December 27, 1940, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert and Serena Garner Showalter.

Richard attended school at Hopewell High School in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. He graduated in the class of 1958.

On January 27, 1962 he was united in marriage to Irene Brunner at Swissvale Methodist church in Swissvale, Pennsylvania.

Richard began working at the J & L steel mill after school and worked there for 42 years until retiring in 2000.

Richard and Irene were avid Pittsburgh Steeler fans. He also enjoyed walking, and spending time with family and friends.

His family includes his wife of over 57 years, Irene of Oskaloosa; sons, Tom (& Rose) Showalter of Oskaloosa, Tim Showalter of Ohio; Grandchildren: Paige, Victoria (& James) Potter, Grace, and Josiah Showalter, and Frankie and Sabrina Yentz. a Brother, Cloyd Showalter; and a Sister-in-law, Dorothy Showalter.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Showalter; brother, Robert Showalter; Sister-in-law, Kathleen Showalter; brother-in-law, Charles Brunner.

As was his wish Richard’s body has been cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date.
