Richard Fox, 77, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, January 7, 2019, at his home in Oskaloosa under the care of MHP Hospice. He was born Friday, May 23, 1941, in Mahaska County, Iowa, the son of George and Helen De Hoet Fox.
Richard grew up in Oskaloosa and attended school in Oskaloosa Schools.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Boyer on September 1, 1962 in Lancaster, Missouri. Early in Richard and Pat’s marriage, they had the opportunity to take in their niece and nephew whom they welcomed and raised them in their loving home.
Richard worked for different logging companies for several years including Central Walnut Logging, and Elder’s Tree Service, before he eventually owned and operated his own tree service. He then went to work for Chet Robinson laying telephone wire. On September 23, 1976, he started working at Rolscreen in Pella. He retired from there in May of 2002, after 25 years.
Richard enjoyed playing pool, doing yard work and detailing vehicles. He had a great appreciation for a clean car. Richard delighted in spending time with his family.
His family includes his wife, Patricia Fox of Oskaloosa; his two sons, Lance Fox of Oskaloosa and Kenny (& Amanda) Grams of David City, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren: Gregory, Bethany and Jessie Grams, Brittany Fox Tucker and Breana Fox; a sister, Inez Long of Pella; a special mother-in-law, Birdie Boyer; and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; 7 brothers: Robert, George, Mike, Johnny, Donald, Jerry and Bill “Budd” Fox; 5 sisters: Genevieve Fox, Mary Jane Kerr, Joan Sweeney, Patricia Fox-Beadle, and Linda Raines.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 10, 2019, at 3 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Dwayne Poe officiating.
Burial will be held at Old White Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
