Rex Ringgenberg

Oskaloosa. Rex Ringgenberg, 58, of Oskaloosa died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was born Monday, November 24, 1952, at Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Lester and Bernedene McCoun Ringgenberg. He attended Saydel High School. Following school he attended Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. On August 11, 1973 he was united in marriage to JoEllen “Jody” Lunkley at Oskaloosa; they later divorced. During his working life he worked on motorcycles and drove semi. He worked in highway maintenance for the D.O.T. from 1985 until his retirement in 2009. He enjoyed guns, motorcycles, fishing, hunting, music, cooking and playing pool. He will be remembered as the kind of guy you meet once and remember forever.

His family includes: 2 daughters: Sara Ringgenberg of Des Moines, Megan Ringgenberg of Cedar Rapids; a son: Matt Ringgenberg of Des Moines; his mother: Bernedene Ringgenberg of Des Moines; a brother: Jack (& Marilyn) Ringgenberg of Des Moines; 3 sisters: Shelia Lincoln, Patti Tyler, Mary Beth Ringgenberg all of Des Moines; and a step brother: Mike (& Kathy) Swinehart of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 11, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Visitation will be held Friday after 12 noon at the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present at the funeral chapel Friday from 12 – 2 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. As were his wishes his body will be cremated following the service. Memorials may be made to the Rex Ringgenberg Memorial Fund.
