Rena Van Donselaar, 97, of Oskaloosa died Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa.

Rena was born Wednesday, January 19, 1916 in Pella, the daughter of Gerrit F. and Maria D. Valster Van Zee. Following school, Rena farmed with her family.

On March 16, 1938, Rena was united in marriage to Albert Van Donselaar in Leighton. Albert died on February 9, 2001. Following their marriage, Albert and Rena farmed near Leighton. In 1943, they purchased a farm near Wright and farmed there until 1998 when they moved to Oskaloosa.

Rena kept a very large garden and loved to work. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.

Rena’s family includes her three sons: Reverend Marvin (& Esther) Van Donselaar of Sioux Center, Iowa, Kenneth (& Linda) Van Donselaar and Elmer (& Micki) Van Donselaar both of Oskaloosa; a daughter: Joan (& Robert) Fopma of Sully; a daughter in law: Vivian Van Donselaar of Bradenton, Florida; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; a brother: Bill Van Zee of Des Moines; two sisters: Cornelia Vos of Oskaloosa and Wilma Spoelstra of Pella; and a sister in law: Mary Lois Van Zee of Pella.

Rena was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son: Raymond G. Van Donselaar; and three brothers: Fred, Ed, and Marion Van Zee.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 13, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Marvin Van Donselaar and Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in Black Oak Cemetery near Pella.
Visitation will begin Sunday after 12 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Sunday from 2 – 4 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Reformed Church for Missions.
