Oskaloosa, Iowa – The expansion of the Reading Garden next to the Oskaloosa Public Library got its first monetary donation planted this week.

Waste Management presented the Oskaloosa Public Library with a check for $2000 to help make the garden possible.

Ammon Taylor, a Municipal Marketing Manager with Waste Management explained that the company provides ‘Think Green’ grants across the nation to communities, whether they are customers or not. “It’s part of our way of giving back to organizations and communities across the nation. We donate to schools, we donate to libraries, we donate to cities for projects, whatever it might be.”

“In this particular case, they [Oskaloosa Library] put in a grant application about a project they have here,” added Taylor. “We were excited to give back.”

Taylor said that the grant to the Oskaloosa Library Reading Garden was on the higher end of a typical gift, “It’s not uncommon.”
