Ralph passed away Thursday evening at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 13 days.
Ralph Lee Martin, son of Loyd Kay and Daisy Beatrice Moss Martin, was born, August 1, 1935, in Calumet, Iowa. He graduated from Cherokee High School. Ralph enlisted, September 20, 1955, in the U.S. Navy, where he served in sea and rescue. He was discharged September 22, 1959. Ralph attended William Penn College and graduated in 1979. He worked as a substitute teacher and also as a welder at Van Gorp Corp. in Pella.
Ralph enjoyed physical fitness, swimming and weight lifting.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Martin of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Beverly (John) Rainey of Rose Hill, IA and a son, Ralph Lamont Martin of St. Louis, MO and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and a sister.
Memorial services for Ralph will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 18, 2013, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Oskaloosa Honor Guard. As was his wish, his body has been cremated. Memorials may be made in his name.
