Ralph Hoffman, 77 of Barnes City passed away Thursday evening, January 10, 2019 at the Montezuma Specialty Care. Ralph Henry Hoffman, the son of Charles Henry and Anne Belle (Stump) Hoffman, was born on October 10, 1941 in West Virginia.

Ralph attended country school in West Virginia.

Ralph began working in the coal mines at a young age and moved to Ohio with his brother, Bill, and worked in a factory making coolers, then ended up in California where he got into plumbing. While working as a plumber, Ralph had a minor accident and ended up in the hospital for a few days where he met the love of his life, Donna.

Ralph and Donna were married in 1966. To this union two children were born, Mark and Nancy.

In 1981, Ralph and Donna moved to Montezuma to be closer to Donna’s family and Ralph worked for Rhiner Brothers Plumbing in West Des Moines. Following his daughter Nancy’s graduation they relocated to Des Moines to be closer to work. Ralph retired in 2008 and worked part time at Walmart in Grimes to keep busy.

In 2011, Ralph completely retired and they moved to Barnes City. Donna passed away in 2013. Ralph enjoyed keeping busy with his yardwork and doing all sorts of projects around the house.

His memory will be honored by his children, Mark (& Lucretia) Hoffman of Ankeny and Nancy (& Steve) Dunnick of Barnes City; four grandchildren: Elizabeth Hoffman, Jeff Innis, August (& Karissa) Hoffman and Stacia Dunnick; three great grandchildren: Tell, Sawyer and Kenley; four siblings: Marie Moore, Jean Weekly, Clarence “Butch” Hoffman and Sue (& Paul) Harrison all of West Virginia; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna Hoffman; and seven siblings: Harry “Pete” Hoffman, William “Bill” Hoffman, Ronald “Ron” Hoffman, Mary Kay “Mickey” Kilkenny, Betty Jo Ringer, James “Jimmy” Hoffman and Evelyn Hoffman.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
A luncheon/visitation will follow the service.
Inurnment will be held in the Barnes City Cemetery in Barnes City.
