Oskaloosa, Iowa – It may not have been raining cats and dogs, but the rain didn’t stop people from supporting Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter and their 2nd Annual 5k.

The event is a major fundraiser for the shelter, and this year, they chose to hold it at the Lacey Recreation Complex right along the trail. “The whole concept of Lacey is a place for the community to get together,” said Lindsey Sime, Executive Director at Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.

Sime said that 63 individuals pre-registered for the K9 5K event. Several of those chose to do the 1 mile walk. This year suffered a similar fate as last, with a rain shower setting in.

The new format replaced Woofstock. The adoption of the 5k format and walk was utilized, as Sime explained back in August of 2012, “to broaden the appeal to more of the community.”

The funds raised help to support a very busy shelter. The shelter has been full at times, but Sime says that homes are becoming available.
