Question of the Week: Should the Debt Ceiling being raised again?

Will Congress be able to get the budget balanced?

It appears our poll last week suffered from some technical difficulties. The voting started off brisk for the first day, when it unexpectedly closed for the week. We asked if you thought if the Republicans and Democrats will work together in the new Congress? In the first day 91% said that No, they will not work together, while 9% thought Yes they would.

Democrats and Republicans were warned by the White House that the US economy faces catastrophe if the debt ceiling is not raised and told Congress “not to toy” with this debate. Currently the debt sits as 13.9 trillion dollars and is fast approaching it’s current cap of 14.3 trillion. The start of the 112th Congress this week is shaping up to be a hot start for them.We asked last week if you thought that Democrats and Republicans could work together, and it appears they will have to in order to resolve this issue.

But coming soon the Republicans are looking to repeal, or at the very least pull, the funding for the new National Health Care law.

If the current cap is not raised we will default on our debt. This would be a first in our history. But others contend that this wild spending has no equal and will bankrupt the country if we continue to spend at our current pace. Our question then will be: vote Yes, they should increase the debt ceiling, or No, we have spent to much money already. Lastly you can choose Unsure, if you aren’t clear on how you feel yet about this situation.
