Challenging Course Tests Runners
The conference meet presented difficult conditions for the middle school competitors, combining warm temperatures, humidity, and a demanding course at Edmundson Park.
Although only a few Oskaloosa runners recorded their fastest two-mile times of the season, the coaching staff considered the meet one of the team’s strongest overall performances.
The challenging course required runners to rely on the conditioning and race strategies they had developed throughout the season.
The sixth-place finishes for both teams came in a competitive conference field that included several established cross country programs.
Seventeen Indians Headed to State Meet
For some Oskaloosa runners, Tuesday’s conference competition marked the conclusion of their cross country season.
However, 17 members of the middle school program will have another opportunity to compete when they participate in the middle school state cross country meet on Saturday, October 17th, at Ankeny Centennial.
The state competition will provide those runners with an opportunity to close their season against middle school competitors from across Iowa.
With both teams completing the conference meet in sixth place, the Indians will now turn their attention to Saturday’s state competition and the final races of the 2026 middle school cross country season.
