Question of the week reminder: Should students be allowed to have school permits?

High School Parking Lot

Last week we asked you what you thought about our city streets. In our poll, 41 residents (98%) voted that they are not being maintained well enough. 1 resident (2%) voted that they are being maintained well enough. The question of the week poll is unscientific and does not reflect the views of Osky News.

This week, we had intended to ask you a more political question, however it was an event earlier this week that caused us to change our mind. When riding home from Eddyville this past Tuesday, my bus was passed by a vehicle going much faster than what the speed limit was. As we got closer to Oskaloosa, I could see that it was tailgating someone and that person was trying to get the person following them away from them. As we got the the Casey’s south of Oskaloosa, I could see that the truck was driving erratically. I later learned that the driver was a student on a school permit.

In previous years there has been a lot of discussion over whether or not the school permit is really a necessity. Proponents of the school permit say that it gives students additional driving experience before they got a license. People against the school permit say that students who have a school permit do nothing but abuse the privilege of having one.

Now it is your turn to vote. The polls will be open until next Sunday at 9 pm when we will release the final vote count. Please also feel free to send us your comments at info@oskynews.org
