Quarterfinal Loss Ends Lady Statesmen Season

Clinton–The Penn women’s soccer team concluded its 2010 season with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded Ashford in the quarterfinals of the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament Saturday.

The Lady Statesmen, seeded #8 in the tourney, end the year at 5-11-3 (1-6-1 MCC).  The visitors were outshot 17-5.

Ashford, who now advances to the semifinals to face #5 seed Grand View, scored in the tenth and 33rd minutes to lead 2-0 at the break.  The Saints added two more goals after intermission as all four tallies were assisted by Chelsea Fisher.

Nancy Chicas (San Francisco, Calif., George Washington HS), one of seven seniors that played their final collegiate game Saturday, led Penn with two shots.

Aubree Gallego (So., Arlington, Texas, Mansfield Legacy HS) recorded three saves in the loss, while Laura Jones-Gentry (Fr., Fruitland, Idaho, Fruitland HS) replaced her for the final minutes and collected two saves off the bench.

The 2010 senior class included Chicas, Sophie Duke (Coventry, England, Warwickshire College) Morgan Fest (Cottonwood Heights, Utah, Salt Lake CC), Hillary Gallego (Arlington, Mansfield Summit HS), Ashley Hart (Gilbert, Ariz., Desert Ridge HS), Katie Johnson (Albia, Indian Hills CC), and  Victoria Schiebel (Mansfield, Texas, Mansfield HS).
