Playoff Berth In Question With Loss To Demons

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Indians traveled to Washington on Friday night, to face a tough district foe in the Demons.

Twelve unanswered points in the 4th quarter by the Demons sealed the deal, and the Indians now wait to see if they will draw a wildcard to the playoffs.

Washington’s defense was tenacious and stymied the Indians. With seven minutes remaining in the first quarter, Oskaloosa quarterback Seth Howard fumbled the ball, resulting in a Washington touchdown.

Washington’s Jack Redlinger scored with 1:54 remaining in the first quarter to put the Demons up 13-0 over the Indians.

Oskaloosa’s Seth Howard responded with 1:06 on the clock in the first quarter, running in from 21 yards out for the first points of the night for the Indians.

Jack Redlinger struck again for Washington on a 25-yard carry at the 9:36 mark in the 2nd quarter. The Demons were up 19-7 at that point.

The Indians responded on a Tyler Miller run from 4 yards out with 6:24 remaining in the half. Demons up 19-14.

Miller wasn’t done in the half, when just over a minute later he catches the Seth Howard pass and motors in from 31 yards out to put the Indians up 21-19.

The Demons had one more drive in the half, and Jack Redlinger once again punched it in for the Demons from 1 yard out. Heading into halftime, the Demons lead the Indians 26-21.

The second half started with fireworks for the Indians, when Miller returned 92 yards for a touchdown on the opening kickoff. Oskaloosa up 28-26.

The Indians Tyler Miller was a man on a mission as he forced the fumble from Jacob Hall, leading to a 4 yard TD run by Zuhayer Mamun to put the Indians up by 9, 35-26.

Washington responded when Luke Turner passed to Jaivonn Willis to complete the 36-yard touchdown. Oskaloosa remained on top 35-32.

The seesaw battle continued when Oskaloosa’s Seth Howard carries the ball 85 yards for the Indians final score of the evening. Oskaloosa up by 10 now, 42-32.

The Demons then rattle off 3 unanswered scores, with 2 more touchdowns by Luke Turner and one more touchdown by Jack Redlinger.

The Demon’s possessed the ball 10 minutes more than the Indians, and the Indians only completed 1 of 8 third-down conversions. The Demons converted 7 of 13 third downs.

Washington had 25 first downs to Oskaloosa’s 15.

The Demons racked up 532 yards of total offense, to the Indians 325. The bulk of those yards for the Demons came on the ground with 359 total yards of rushing.

For the Indians, Seth Howard leads all rushers with 166 total yards on 16 carries. Casey Hill had 63 yards on 11 rushing attempts.

Howard passed for a total of 121 yards, completing 6 of 20 passing attempts, and 3 interceptions.

Tyler Miller had 2 receptions for 67 yards and 1 touchdown. Cole Henry had 32 yards on 2 receptions. Jarad Kruse and Tanner DeKock each had a reception totaling 11 yards.

On the defensive side, Jaden Van Roekel lead all the Indians with 14 total tackles, followed by Tanner DeKock with 11. Alex De Jong and Blake Van Veldhuizen each had 9 tackles. Cole Kraber with 8 tackles and Jarad Kruse with 7 tackles. Casey Hill and Calvin Silvers each had 6 tackles. Eight other Indians registered tackles on the evening.

The Indians close out regular season play on Friday night when they travel to West Burlington High School.
