Old Shoes for the Old Shoe Game
The Old Shoe Game is here soon 4 pm, Friday, August 22, at the stadium at Lacey Recreation Complex. While the admission price is still sports drinks and bottled water, the MCRF is asking families to bring along their old youth athletic shoes (and other sports equipment) to the game as well, to donate.

Play It Forward
The Old Shoe Game will be used as 2nd annual equipment exchange program called Play It Forward with the launch being last year’s old shoe game. MCRF will be accepting gently used youth football cleats, jerseys, softball/baseball cleats, bats, gloves, pants, safety equipment, sliding pads, and soccer cleats, league jerseys, shin guards and shorts.

“We are all about making recreation easily reached for every child in the community,” said MCRF Director Sherry Vavra. “The Play It Forward program is a win-win for families who want to clear out the clutter of gently-used youth athletic gear, and help us get it in the hands of other youth who play or want to play. The program is open for anyone and as much as our kids grow every season, it just makes sense.” Vavra said.

How it Works
“We will be accepting equipment at the Old Shoe Game and during normal registration events for youth recreation programs,” said Vavra. “When families register for youth football, soccer, softball or baseball, the equipment will be displayed on tables and available for families to take and use,” she said.

“The Old Shoe Game is a long-standing tradition in the community. It marks start of a new football season each year for area youth,” Vavra said. “It seems like a great time to partner a new tradition of gathering ‘old’ shoes and equipment for youth in the community. It supports our tradition of being a recreation community and is one more step in encouraging everyone to get in the game.”
