Peggy Katko, 79, of Ottumwa and formerly of Eddyville, died Friday, September 4, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa. She was born April 6, 1941, in Mahaska County, the daughter of Hugh and Agnes Ratka Stout, Sr.

Peggy graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1959.

Following high school graduation, she went to work for her parents at Shady Lodge Café in Oskaloosa.

On October 1, 1961, Peggy was united in marriage to Marvin Katko at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa. Marvin died November 15, 1994.

She continued to work at the café until her parents passed away, at which time she purchased the business. After a few years of owning and operating the business it was sold.

She was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Oskaloosa. Peggy had a soft spot in her heart for animals. In her eyes there was no such thing as a stray pet, they all had a home at her place.

Her family includes her brother and his wife, Hugh Stout, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; and a sister, Connie Ricklefs.

As was Peggy’s wish, her body has been cremated.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2020 in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Dr. Douglas Smiley officiating.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 9, starting at 9:00 a.m. until service time at 10:30 a.m. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
Memorials may be made to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter in Oskaloosa.
