Patricia Louise Faber, age 91, of Blakesburg, IA, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at the home that her and Vaughn built together in 1960 near Blakesburg, surrounded by her loved ones, under the care of EveryStep Hospice. Patricia was born on November 14, 1928, in Newton, IA, to Fred and Bernice (Morris) Stevens.

Patricia grew up and attended school in Newton.

On May 28, 1947, she married Vaughn Faber in Troy, Kansas. Patricia and Vaughn shared 72 years of marriage prior to her passing.

In her younger years, Patricia worked at the dime store in Newton before cooking at a diner there. Patricia was then a homemaker her whole life, taking care of her family. After her children were raised, she also worked at Chamberlains and DeLongs in Albia.

Patricia attended the Urbana Center Christian Church before becoming a member of Union Chapel Church. She was very strong in her faith, always praying for others and encouraging them in their faith as well, telling them, “Pray a lot and keep looking up and He will take care of you.” Patricia was generous with her time and was a Monroe County 4-H leader. She and Vaughn were inducted into the Monroe County Ag Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Monroe County 4-H Hall of Fame in 2010. Patricia enjoyed being outdoors, working in her flower beds, gardening, and canning. She was an extraordinary baker and cake decorator, known for her wedding and birthday cakes and mints. She was also a very talented seamstress. Patricia was very loving, kind, and accepting of others and never knew a stranger. Above all else, her family was everything to her.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Vaughn; 8 children: Catherine (& Larry) McCarty, Carolyn (& Gene) Hunter, Dennis (& Sandi) Faber, Cheryl (& Jack) Martin, Cindy (& Tom) Shepherd, Rebecca (& John) Engle, Patricia Tarbell, and Lisa (& Ross) Boley; 27 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Colleen Miller and Betty Dryer; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Bernice Stevens; a daughter, Jackie “Diann” Richmond; a son, Vaughn Douglas Faber; 2 brothers, William Morris Stevens and Fred Stevens Jr.; 2 sisters, Beverly and Evanette Stevens; a grandson, Staff Sergeant Jack Martin III; and a son-in-law, Roy Tarbell.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Patricia’s family present to greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with her grandson, Zach Shepherd officiating.
Burial will follow dinner at the Trussell Cemetery on the first Faber farm Vaughn and Patricia purchased in 1947.
A memorial has been established to the Albia Museum or the Welcome Home Soldier Memorial in Albia.
