PELLA — Two members of the Central College men’s track and field program were awarded spots on the Google Cloud Division III Academic All-District 8 teams presented by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Tuesday morning.

Will Daniels (senior, Geneseo, Ill.) is a repeat selection while Kyle Pape (senior, Dubuque, Wahlert Catholic HS) is a first-time selection.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve at the varsity level and achieve a 3.30 or better cumulative grade point average. Both athletes are now under consideration for Capital One Academic All-America honors. Selections were made based on accolades from the cross country and track and field seasons.

Pape is an exercise science major with a 3.83 GPA. A member of the Dutch cross country and track and field teams, Pape was all-conference in the 800-meter run for the indoor and outdoor campaigns. He qualified for the national indoor track meet in the 800 meters, placing 13th. He ran a season-best 26 minutes, 36 seconds at the NCAA Division III Central Regional cross country meet.

Daniels is a biology major with a 4.0 GPA. He swept at the combined events at the NCAA Division III championships, winning the heptathlon indoors and the decathlon outdoors. In the heptathlon, he set the national record of 5,441 points and completed the second-best decathlon mark since 1985 with 7,195 points. He also had nine all-conference performances between the indoor and outdoor season.
