The Oskaloosa Indians baseball team claimed victory over Williamsburg on Monday night.

The team is one win away from playing in the state tournament held at Principal Park.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Indians overcame a big inning by Williamsburg to advance to the substate final on Wednesday night, where the Indians will take on Pella.

Oskaloosa Head Coach, Clint Gingerich spoke about the team’s effort on Monday night. “Our motto’s been all year that it’s going to take every single guy. And if you look at who contributed tonight, one through nine and guys off the bench. It took every single one of them. It was a good win for our guys”.

Oskaloosa held a 3-1 lead over Williamsburg until the bottom of the 3rd, when starting pitcher Rian Yates was relieved by Bennett Spry. The Raiders scored 5 in that inning on just one hit, and the Indians were now down 6-3 at that point.

Senior Joe Sterner closed out the night for the Indians from the mound. The Indians went on to win by scoring 4 more runs in the 5th inning and 3 more runs in the 7th, claiming the win 10-6 on the night.

“It’s just a typical Osky baseball win. It took every single guy in the dugout tonight”, says Gingerich. “It was good to see us pull it out”.

“If you haven’t been watching, you’re missing a fun team to watch”, says Gingerich of the Indians. “So come out and support us Wednesday night”.

Pella is 2-1 over Oskaloosa this year, and the Indians took their win against Pella at Pella earlier this year.

The Indians are 24-10 on the year, and will face Pella who sits at 29-8 for that opportunity to play in the state tournament at Principal Park.
