The 7th Grade Fighting Indians took on the Pella Dutch in a very physical game on Tuesday night, with the Dutch getting the best of the Indians with a score of 20-0. It was a very physical game on both sides as both teams struggled to score early in the game. The Indians received the ball on their first possession of the game and marched down the field inside the Pella red zone. The drive lasted twelve plays as the Indians offensive line opened some nice holes for Andrew Else and company. The Dutch held the Indians to a 4th and 5 on the 12 yard line and the Indians failed to convert the first down.

The Dutch took over on downs and marched down the field on their own 10 play drive. The Indians held the Dutch to 3rd down on numerous occasions, but they just couldn’t get off the field. Finally, the Dutch converted a 3rd and 15 on a long pass into the Indians red zone, and then punched in for the score on the next play making the score 6 – 0.
The Indians next possession started out with promise as Andrew Else ran for nine yards, but he lost the ball as he was going down and the Dutch recovered. The Dutch were held to a 3rd and long inside the Indian 30 yard line on the ensuing possession, but the Indians gave up a touchdown run on a quarterback sweep. This gave the Dutch a 12-0 lead going into the half.
In the second half, the Dutch received the ball on the opening kickoff, and then scored on the very next play from 55 yards. The Indians defense kept Pella out of the end zone for the rest of the game, but the offense couldn’t quite get into the end zone after a couple more promising drives. The final score of the game was 20-0.
The B game was had a really exciting ending as the Dutch beat the Indians 8 – 6. The Dutch scored a late touchdown with 1:52 left on the clock to give them the lead, but the Indians were determined to keep fighting. They drove down the field to the Pella 5 yard line before losing the game on an incomplete pass as time expired. The A & B teams gave great effort and will be in action at Newton next Tuesday.
