Oskaloosa, Iowa – The rumble of pipes echoed through Oskaloosa on Monday afternoon, as over 30 motorcycles from the Patriot Guard Riders and the American Legion Riders, Post 34 of Oskaloosa, escorted the “The Wall” from Interstate 80, down Highway 21 and eventually onto Highway 92.

The tractor trailer that houses the 1/2 scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. also has a small museum containing artifacts from the war.

One of those riders on Monday was Roger Frakes of Richland, Iowa. This was approximately his 250th such ride with the Patriot Guard Riders, and he was one of the many riders to take part in the escort of Ottumwa’s fallen Marine, Lance Corporal Adam Wolff, from the Cedar Rapids airport last Friday.

Escorting “The Wall” means a lot to Roger, as his brother is memorialized on the wall for his service during the Vietnam War.

Tuesday evening at 6pm, there will be an opening ceremony featuring General Tommy Franks, US Army (Ret.).

From then until the closing ceremony on July 6th at 6pm, the wall will be open to everyone, 24 hours a day.

“The Wall” is being hosted and sponsored by Van Wall Equipment, The Veterans of Foreign Wars and The American Legion.
