Oskaloosa Softball Takes Two Against Pella

The Oskaloosa Softball team ended their regular season with two road wins at Pella Monday night. 3-1 and 5-2.

Hayle Hacker pitched two full games, allowing four runs on ten hits with 12 strikeouts and three walks, picking up her 16th and 17th wins of the season.

The first game started with a bang, as Meghan Moorman led off with a solo home run to left field, her first of the season, giving Osky a 1-0 lead. Pella tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on a leadoff walk, base hit, and an Oskaloosa error. The Indians scored their final two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Maddie Haines led off with a base hit, followed by an RBI single from Sophia Dykstra, who also later scored in the inning. Oskaloosa scored three runs on six hits, committed two errors and stranded eight base runners. Pella scored one run on four hits, 0 errors and left five on base. At the plate, Moorman was 1-4 with a home run, Ashley Kindley had a single, double and walked, Haines had a single, and Dykstra had two singles and an RBI. Hacker got the win pitching seven innings, allowing one run on six hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks, two being intentional. Ella Corbin took the loss for the Lady Dutch.

In game two, Pella got the quick start scoring two in the bottom of the first off three singles including an RBI from Maddy Rempe, but from there Osky slammed the door allowing only one base runner the rest of the way.

Oskaloosa scored three to take the lead in the top of the fourth and added two more in the top of the fifth to seal the deal and win 5-2. After giving up two runs on three hits in the first inning, Osky retired 18 of the next 19 Pella batters, only allowing a single in the bottom of the second inning by Kylie Tauke. Oskaloosa scored five runs on seven hits, committed one error and stranded five base runners. Pella scored one run on four hits, committed four costly errors and stranded two runners. Hacker again got the win pitching seven innings, allowing one run on four hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Maddy Parks suffered the loss for Pella pitching all seven innings. At the plate, Meghan Moorman, Ashley Kindley, Abby Braundmeier, Maddie Haines, and Taylor Wills each had a single, and Ava Vandewall had two singles.

These were Oskaloosa’s final regular season games as the Indians finish with a record of 22-14 overall and 10-10 in LHC play. Oskaloosa now prepares to make a return trip to state as they open up Regional tournament play at home Thursday night hosting Grinnell at 7 pm.
