Oskaloosa Girls’ Tennis Suffers Setback Against North Polk

The Oskaloosa High School varsity girls’ tennis team faced a challenging match on Monday evening, falling 3-6 to North Polk. According to head coach Bryan Kime, the team’s performance was hindered by fatigue from a demanding weekend full of matches.

“Today we played sluggish,” Kime noted in his remarks about the game. “It’s clear our top six were feeling the effects of a busy weekend schedule, but it’s not an excuse. North Polk came out strong and played really well.”

The singles matches saw a mix of tough defeats and hard-fought victories for Oskaloosa. Ava Ridenour, playing in the top position, faced a tough opponent in Abby Mangae, losing 1-8. Similarly, Lexi Prather struggled against North Polk’s Sophie Laib, unable to score more than 0-8.

Despite the challenges in singles, Jenna DeBoef and Aysica Morrow secured victories for Oskaloosa. DeBoef overcame Greta Dillinger with an 8-4 win, and Morrow fought a close battle against Kenzie Keenan to win 8-6.

In doubles, Oskaloosa continued to face resistance, with only one of the three pairs securing a win. Jenna DeBoef and Aysica Morrow teamed up to deliver an 8-5 victory against Becca Aagard and Emma Hyden. However, the other pairs weren’t as fortunate, with Hannah Nelson and Lexi Prather, as well as Ava Ridenour and Logan Edgar, both succumbing to their North Polk counterparts.

Oskaloosa will look to bounce back in their next outing, hoping to bring fresher legs and sharper skills to the court.
