Oskaloosa Free Clinic announces summer hours;
Open the First Tuesday of the month

OSKALOOSA – The Oskaloosa Free Clinic (OFC) has announced revised hours for the summer. Beginning July 1st, the clinic will be open on the first Tuesday of each month. The clinic is located on the lower level of the Medical Group on the Mahaska Health Partnership campus, and is accessed at entrance #4 (off north 12th Street).

According to OFC Medical Director Matt Whitis, MD, the number of people utilizing the OFC in the summer is historically low. “Our summer volume is typically our slowest time,” Dr. Whitis explained. “And with the recent enactment of the Affordable Healthcare Act and other positive moves in the community, the demand for a free clinic in Oskaloosa has been drastically reduced, so the advisory board determined that a once a month clinic during the summer was appropriate.

“We are thrilled to know that many individuals are able to find healthcare they need on an on-going basis with a primary care provider,” Dr. Whitis said.

The Oskaloosa Free Clinic is part of the Free Clinics of Iowa network. It is for Mahaska County residents without health insurance or other means of health coverage. The clinic provides basic medical services for illness, minor injury and preventive care.

A limited number of patient appointments are available each month, and patient numbers are allotted by a drawing at 5:30 pm on the night of the clinic. Those wishing to be seen should arrive no later than 5:20 pm.
