Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Fire Department was called to the 1000 block of 1st Avenue West on Saturday afternoon around 4:48 pm.

When Oskaloosa Police Officers and firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the front of the home fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters quickly extinguished most of the flames on the front of the house but had to tackle some fire that had made its way to the attic area of the home.

Shortly after the majority of the flames were extinguished, an Oskaloosa firefighter noticed a dog inside the home.

Animal control was notified, and Oskaloosa Police officers helped the dog get outside and to safety. Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services paramedics gave the dog water until animal control arrived.

No one was hurt as a result of the fire, and no cause of the fire has been released. There are no damage estimates at this time. We will update this story when one becomes available.
