Oskaloosa Firefighter Valinn McReynolds gives a fellow firefighter the thumbs up after battling a house fire on Thursday evening.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Fire Department was dispatched at 7:46 pm to a structure on fire at 114 South L Street in Oskaloosa.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, flames were visible on the north side of the house.

Oskaloosa Fire Captain Dan Hoy then called in the rest of the department and made entry into the home.

The fire was mostly located in the kitchen of the home, and the fire crew was able to knock down the flames quickly. “We were able to apply a minimal amount of water to get the fire extinguished,” said Hoy.

Firefighters then focused on ventilating the home.
Hoy said there was extensive damage to the home, “but it could have been a lot worse.”

The residents were at home at the time of the fire.

No injuries were reported due to the fire, and the cause of the fire is thought to be electrical in nature, but the investigation is ongoing.

Oskaloosa Fire was assisted at the scene by the Oskaloosa Police Department, Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, and Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services.
