Oskaloosa City Council Changes Traffic Ways In Portions Of Oskaloosa
By R.D. KEEP
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Oskaloosa City Council covered routine business in short order Monday before adjourning into a closed session.
During the regular meeting councilors approved a fund shift to move $353,798 from the General Fund to the Pavement Management Fund in order to pay for the improvements to the Iowa Highway 432 rehabilitation project. The move was purely an accounting move and does not reflect an increase in taxes or new spending.
Councilors approved the first reading to change traffic ways in the northwest part of the city. The changes include:
- Converting a three-way stop to a stop only for eastbound approach at Orchard and North Green Street.
- Convert four-way stop to two-way for north and southbound approaches at Orchard Avenue and Santa Clara Street.
- Convert four-way stop to stop only westbound approach at North I Street and M Avenue West
- Convert three-way stop to stop only for northbound approach for northbound approach on North I Street at M Avenue West
- Convert from westbound approach stop to stop only for northbound approach at North H Street and M Avenue West
- Add a stop sign to stop only for eastbound approach at 238th Street and North green/Laveen Avenue
There was also discussion about removing two stop signs near the Goodwill Store at Penn Central Mall. City staff will determine if the locations are registered on a city ordinance. If they are not, then they may be removed without council action. If they are the council will act on these signs at another time.
In other business:
- Approved a resolution to allow city manager Michael Schrock to negotiate with Harvest Point, LLC for the use of effluent water at the golf course.
- Approved the appointment of Errin Keltner to a six-year term on the water board. Appointment to end on June 30, 2018.
- Approved allowing city manager to grant temporary permits for more than one parallel spot or two angle parking spots for a period in excess of three days but not to exceed two weeks.
