Oskaloosa Bows Out in First Round

by Wade Steinlage

Oskaloosa–The Indian girls’ basketball team knocked off Fairfield to start the year, but could not replicate that performance in a season-ending loss.

OHS (11-11) closed out its campaign with a 37-24 loss to Fairfield in the Class 4A Region 5 quarterfinals on February 16.

Oskaloosa, which had defeated the Trojans 59-55 in the season opener back on November 30, was limited to 23.3% shooting, including just one made three-pointer in 24 tries.

The Indians, who were also outrebounded 30-20 and outscored 13-3 at the free-throw line, were still within striking distance throughout. Unfortunately, they could just never get the offense kick-started in the season-ending setback.

Presley Blommers tallied a team-high seven points, while Asia Thompson was next with six points. Aubree Blanco managed eight rebounds and three blocks to go along with four points.

Despite only scoring 24 points, Oskaloosa had seven different players get on the board against Fairfield.
