Open Auditions for “Home Again”

George Daily Community Auditorium

OSKALOOSA, IA — Calling all performers, storytellers, singers, dancers, volunteers, and Mahaska County enthusiasts – we want you to be part of a one-of-a-kind production! Auditions for “Home Again,” an entirely original Mahaska musical, will be at the George Daily Auditorium on Sunday, May 6 and Monday, May 7 from 5 – 8 p.m.

We’re inviting new and long-term residents and everyone in between from all over Mahaska County to audition. No experience is necessary – we welcome anyone age 8 and up of all ability levels. There are both singing and non-singing parts available. If auditioning for a singing role, you may bring a prepared song or sing a familiar one like “Happy Birthday.” Those auditioning for non-singing roles need not sing.

“This is a living, breathing script and so we want to utilize the talents and skills of anyone who’d like to participate,” said Allison McGuire, director of the production. “If you’ve been wanting to try out theater in your retirement, or if you are in elementary school and love singing and dancing, this is the show for you.”

The rehearsal schedule will be flexible. “This is also the show for the busy professional, as not all roles require line memorization or an intensive rehearsal schedule,” added McGuire.

“Home Again” is an original show written and developed by the George Daily Auditorium. A mixture of heartfelt stories and comedic takes on the familiar, it asks the question “What does it mean to live in Mahaska County?” It includes stories, photos, and audio gathered from the Mahaska Memories Roadshow events across the county.

McGuire directed Iola Cadwallader’s production of “George” in August 2017 and is excited to tackle a new production rooted in Mahaska County. “Working on George really helped to uncover all of the fantastic and entertaining stories that are part of this area. I’m excited that this show has a broader lens outside of one specific story,” said McGuire.

“Home Again will perform on June 16 and 17. For more information, visit www.georgedaily.org/grant or call (641) 672-0799. Support for this project is provided by the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
