One Killed In Overnight Fire
One person lost their life in an overnight fire in this garage.

The victim from the 06/22/2018 garage fire has been identified as Karen Bunting, 61 of New Sharon, Iowa. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No further information is planned for release at this time.
On 06/22/2018 at 01:55 AM, New Sharon Fire Department was dispatched to the 100 block of North Elm Street for a structure fire. The fire was isolated to a detached garage. There is one confirmed fatality and the name is not being released at this time pending notification of family. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
New Sharon Fire Department was assisted by Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, New Sharon Police Department, Mahaska Health Partnership Ambulance, Mahaska County 911 Communications, Iowa State Fire Marshall’s Office, and Iowa Office of State Medical Examiner.
