Norma L. Snyder, 90, of San Tan Valley, Arizona, and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at Hospice of the Valley’s Dobson Home. Norma was born Saturday, February 11, 1928, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Nellie Kennedy Cubit.
Norma graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1945. Following graduation, she attended COE college in Cedar Rapids.
On September 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lester W. Snyder in Oskaloosa. Lester died in 2008, after 61 years of marriage.
Norma worked for 5 years as a secretary at North Mahaska Schools. She later took the secretary job in student services at William Penn College, a position she held for over 16 years until her retirement in 1993.
Norma was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Oskaloosa. Her life centered around her faith, family, and church.
Her family includes her four children: Jennifer Lynn (& Gary) Davis of Mesa, Arizona, Michael Jay (& Patricia) Snyder of LaPlata, Missouri, Jeffrey Cubit (& Debbie) Snyder of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Kathleen Jo (& Stephen) Ludwig of Maryville, Missouri; ten grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; two brothers: Walter (& Mary Lou) Cubit of Oskaloosa and Andrew (& Mary Lou) Cubit, Jr. of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester Snyder; three sisters: Wilda Wharton, Beulah Petersen and Helen Goemaat; four brothers: Vern Cubit, John Cubit, Herbert Cubit, and a brother in infancy.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 1 p.m. in the Bethel Baptist Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Steve Cox officiating.
Burial will be held in the Bluff Creek Cemetery. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will be at Bethel Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
