NEW ADDITIONS TO THE DAILY YOUTH THEATRE SUMMER CAMP

The Daily Youth Theatre

OSKALOOSA, IA — The Daily Youth Theatre is thrilled to announce its 2012 summer theatre camp! The summer camp begins Monday, June 4th and runs for nine one-week sessions with the week of July 4th off. Campers learn about acting, teamwork and creativity while they participate in fun improvisational activities, entertaining games, acting exercises, technical theatre education, and, of course, play rehearsals. Every camp session culminates in a live stage production put on entirely by the students. Each session is unique; the staff gets to know the campers throughout the week and writes a play specifically tailored to fit their individual strengths and interests.

In addition to the full summer program, Daily Youth Theatre is also introducing Stage Debut, an introductory half-day program for students entering first and second grades. “It’s a great way to introduce them to the program,” said Katy Ottosson Nye, the youth theatre director. “They’ll still have interaction with the older kids, but will receive more individual attention and have the opportunity to produce their very own play!” Stage Debut is held from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Monday through Friday with free public performances at 11:30 a.m. each Friday. Campers must be registered by the Friday before their session.

The full summer camp is held at the George Daily from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and is open to students entering third through tenth grade. All students must be registered the Friday before their session. A free public performance will be held every Friday at 3 p.m.

“New this year, we have a lot of discounts and price breaks to make camp more affordable,” said Nye. “We also have scholarships available.” Parents with multiple campers can enjoy the family discount. Campers who sign up for two weeks automatically get a multi-week discount that can be redeemed throughout the whole summer. More information is available on the Youth Theatre website or by calling 641-672-3795.

Daily Youth Theatre provides many year-round opportunities for local students. Over the past two years, Daily Youth Theatre has produced a total of 33 productions with over 700 students from Oskaloosa, Pella, New Sharon, Eddyville, and Ottumwa. The program is run by Katy Ottosson Nye, who is joined by camp counselors Zach Atha, Jana Latchaw and Lucas Trainer.
