Neoma Wonderlich
April 13, 1921 – April 8, 2017
Johnston (Ollie), Iowa | Age 95

Neoma Mae Brolliar Wonderlich, 95, Johnston, IA, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 08, 2017 at The Life Center surrounded by her family. Neoma Brolliar was born April 13, 1921, the daughter of Ray and Iona Brolliar of Davenport, Iowa.

Neoma was raised on a farm near Ollie, Iowa, graduating from Ollie High School 1939. One of her greatest joys were the years she spent teaching in a rural one room school.

Neoma was united in marriage to Charles Wonderlich on March 25, 1945.

Neoma worked alongside of her husband on the family farm in rural Ollie IA and enjoyed being a homemaker and mother. Due to her great love of the Brown Swiss dairy cow, she and Charles built up a herd of registered Brown Swiss cows.

In Nov. 2013 she moved to Johnston IA to live with Lucinda and Jeff. She was a faithful and lifelong member of the Ollie Baptist Church and gave much of her time and talents to her church family. Neoma also served in various leadership positions at the area and regional American Baptist Churches and the American Baptist Women-Missionaries including President of the Regional ABW-M.

A true artist and lifelong learner, Neoma was an avid reader, sewer, quilter, knitter, painter, basket weaver, cake baker and decorator, photographer, gardener, writer and genealogist. She was inducted into the 2010 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame for her 4-H service.

Neoma was always a teacher with learning at the heart of everything she did. When Johnny Orr came to ISU she became an avid Cyclone Men’s Basketball fan. She saw great value in technology as it related to education. She embraced using a computer early in the technological age. She stayed current with the fast moving world of technology and enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends on Facebook up until her final days. She and sister Norma Gene would call each other the next day after a game and analyze what went right and what went wrong in the game that they had seen the night before.

She is survived by her children: Norman (& Marj) Wonderlich of Webster City, Lucinda (& Jeff) Fuller of Johnston and Verne (& Beatrice) Wonderlich of Johnston; her grandchildren: Vince (& Lisen) Wonderlich, Andrea (& Matt) Harbaugh, Jessica Wonderlich, Sara (& Nate) Johansen: step-grandchildren: Amber (& Cole Foster) Marez, Carrie (& Nolan) Miller, Chris (& Melanie Boone) Fuller; great grandchildren: Charles Harbaugh, Henry Harbaugh, Amelia Harbaugh, Adeline Johansen; step-great grandchildren: Claire Miller, Lyla Miller, Coral Foster, Coleson Foster; her in-laws: Lee Wonderlich and Marilyn (& Gordon) Gott; many nieces, nephews and other relatives that she was proud to call family; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 infant siblings; her sister, Norma Gene Wonderlich; brothers-in-law, Robert Wonderlich and Milford Wonderlich; sisters-in-law, Betty Wonderlich and Marian Wonderlich; and her double nephew, Roger Wonderlich.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 11 at 11:00 am at Ollie Baptist Church, Ollie, Iowa.
Visitation will be Monday April 10, 2017, with the family receiving friends from 5 – 7 p.m. at Fremont Funeral Chapel.
Burial will follow the service at the Ollie Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the following: Pekin Dollar for Scholars, Iowa 4-H Foundation, or to the church of your choice.
