Nancy Nelson, 76 of Montezuma and formerly of Waterloo, IA passed away peacefully Thursday morning, July 18, 2019 at the Montezuma Specialty Care. Nancy Jo Nelson, the daughter of Richard and Mary (Bensene) Evans was born on October 7, 1942 in Freeport, IL.

Nancy graduated from Waterloo West High School in Waterloo, Iowa with the class of 1961. She attended Iowa Methodist Nursing School and graduated from Hawkeye Tech.

On April 16, 1962, Nancy was united in marriage to Robert Nelson in the United Methodist Church in Waterloo. To this union twin children were born, Kim and Kevin.

Nancy worked as an LPN at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. She also took care of her father-in-law when he was ill. Following her father-in-law’s death in 1985, Nancy returned to school receiving her Registered Nurse’s license in 1987. Bob and Nancy opened Bob’s R.C. Supply store in Waterloo and ran it for 35 years, retiring in 2003.

They moved to Lake Ponderosa near Montezuma in 2005 and Nancy volunteered for hospice. She loved to sing and play the piano. She also enjoyed her flowers, gardening, motorcycle rides with Bob and attended model airplane events. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She attended the United Methodist Church in Waterloo and Montezuma and sang in the church’s choir.

Her memory will be honored by her husband, Robert Nelson of Montezuma; her children: Kim Nelson of Cedar Falls and Kevin (& Karrie) Nelson of Waterloo; her six grandchildren: Aaron Nelson, Mary Nelson, Rose Nelson, Melanie Nelson, Dario McHaney and Michaela Arce; her brother, Mark Evans of Washington D.C; two sisters: Ann (& Darrel) Hinshaw of Palm Springs, FL and Jill Stivers of Minneapolis, MN; and many other relatives and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial gathering will be held at later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Care Initiatives Hospice and sent to the funeral home at P.O. Box 727, Montezuma, Iowa 50171.

Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
