Mildred Lucille Haines, 84, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at the MHP Hospital Emergency Room. She was born May 18, 1934, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Alice Kanselaar.

Mildred graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1953.

On August 1, 1953, she was united in marriage to Clifford Haines at Oskaloosa. Clifford died February 5, 2010.

Early on Mildred worked at the Hospital in Oskaloosa. She later worked at various nursing homes in Oskaloosa, Binns and Stevens, and last for Carter Steel in Oskaloosa.

Mildred and Clifford also opened their home to numerous foster children for over 25 years.

Family was very important to Mildred. In 1996, through the help of the television show Unsolved Mysteries, she was reunited with her two brothers and a sister, after 48 years of being separated.

Mildred enjoyed stamping, knitting, crocheting, and making candy for her family and friends. Children were the delight of her life, she had a soft spot in her heart for every one of the foster children she and Clifford had the privilege of raising. She always looked forward to family get togethers and having her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren around.

Her family includes her two sons: Jeff (& Sandra) Haines of Oskaloosa and Terry Haines of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren: Jason Haines, Jamie Aschenbrenner, Jeremy Haines, Amanda Haines, and Julila Colindres; eight great grandchildren: Taylena Haines, Mason Aschenbrenner, Maddie Haines, Colby Aschenbrenner, Isabell Haines, Tasia Martin, Maddux Aschenbrenner, and Victoria Colindres; two great great grandchildren; brother and sisters: Maryann Torres, John McIntosh, Tom Kriz, Donna Nord, Wayne Hint, Sue Flander, and John Kanselaar; a brother in law, Dennis Cook; and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her parents; three brothers: Clifford Kanselaar, Danny Kanselaar, and Richard Miedema; and a sister, Janis Cook.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12, 2018, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Friday morning after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 on Friday afternoon.
Memorials may be made to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.
