MHP Specialty Services welcomes Dr. Nicholas Messamer to practice

OSKALOOSA — Board-certified Family Practice Physician Dr. Nicholas Messamer has joined with the physicians of Mahaska Health Partnership Specialty Services and will be relocating his practice to MHP’s campus beginning Jan. 1.

Dr. Messamer’s new office will be located on the ground floor of the Medical Specialty Center on the north side of MHP’s campus. He will be joining the practice with General Surgeons Dr. Timothy Breon and Dr. Paul Riggs; Allergy/Pulmonology Specialist Dr. Ron Graeff; Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Sreedhar Somisetty and Physician Assistant Mike Johnson; Nurse Practioners Melissa Lamb and Lisa Nelson; and Pediatrician Dr. John O’Brien.

Dr. Messamer said he is excited about the move and is looking forward to serving patients at his new practice. “Patients will benefit from this move because I’ll have additional support staff to assist with my patients’ care,” Dr. Messamer explained. “This is a great opportunity for me to continue my focus on providing primary and preventive care services.”

Practicing in Oskaloosa since 1991, Dr. Messamer has a special interest in geriatric services and is currently the medical director of Vision Quest, MHP’s Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Unit. “I like treating patients of all ages, and I enjoy educating people on how to take care of their own health.”

Dr. Messamer grew up in Russell, Iowa, and is the second oldest of eight children. He and his wife, Karen, have two children. Daughter Gina, 24, is attending the University of Iowa for her master’s in sociology and law. Son Marcus, 18, is attending Texas Christian University to major in engineering. He is also the university’s mascot, “Super Frog.”

MHP CEO Jay Christensen said hospital officials are excited for Dr. Messamer to join the team of physicians employed by MHP. “Dr. Messamer is an excellent physician who always puts his patients needs first. We’re looking forward to our new partnership, and know that this move will enhance services provided to patients.”
