Mary K. Elliott, 80, of Eddyville passed away Wednesday evening, July 29, 2015, at the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Mary Kathryn Elliott, daughter of Raymond Paul and Verda S. (Shaw) Robinson, was born April 2, 1935, at the home of her parents in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Mary spent her early childhood in Oskaloosa. After her father’s untimely death and her mother’s remarriage to Ray C. Lloyd, she moved to the Fremont area where she attended school. Mary was a 1953 graduate of Fremont High School where she was the valedictorian of her class.

Mary traveled to Harlingen, Texas following her education. One of her first jobs was at an A & W Root Beer Drive-In, where she waitressed on roller skates.

While in Texas she married Nelson Towne. Tragically, before the birth of their daughter, Nelson died. Mary returned to Oskaloosa where Kathryn was born.

In 1965, she married David Henry Elliott, they made their home in Oskaloosa and to this union, her son David and daughter, Diann were born. Mary worked at Big Smith Overall and Pizza Hut before going to work at Hy-Vee, where she worked in the deli for over 20 years. During her time at Hy-Vee, she also worked in housekeeping at Pleasant Park Nursing Home.

Mary attended the First Church of the Open Bible. As a young mother, she served as a Girl Scout Leader. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and crocheting, she also enjoyed playing video games with her grandchildren and the companionship of her dogs, of which Rascal was the most recent.

Mary’s family includes: her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy (& Russ) Beasely of Eddyville; her son and daughter-in-law, David (& Marcia) Elliott of Excelsior, MN; five grandchildren: Erica (& Todd) Tinnermeier, Justin Beasley, and Andrew, Lila and Henri Elliott; three great-grandchildren: Emma, Breanna and Troy Tinnermeier; a brother, Ray (& Geri) Robinson; and a sister, Beverly (& Harold) Hanson of Eddyville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by both of her husbands; an infant daughter, Diann Elliott; and two sisters: Phyllis Veach and Barbara Davis.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 3, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dwayne Poe of the First Church of the Open Bible officiating.
Following the service her body will be cremated and burial of her ashes will be held at 4 p.m. at Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery south of Fremont, IA.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel; the family will be present from 2-4 p.m. to greet visitors.

Memorials may be made to Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter or the First Church of the Open Bible.
